UP! - SOIL I
Berit Jansson, Marianne Schneider,
Annette Hornskov Mørk 9. - 30. September Installation. Natural History Museum, outdoor area. University park, Aarhus C The artist group has worked with soil as a material many times before. This time, the material itself, soil is being put on a pedestal. The artwork reflects upon what soil really is and it is the result of careful research and experiments with the material and its life-giving properties. Soil has four important functions: it is a medium for plant growth; it is a means of water storage, supply and purification; it is a modifier of Earth’s atmosphere; it is a habitat for organisms; all of which, in turn, modify the soil. Soil is called the Skin of the Earth as it protects and maintains the planet and all life on it. In this case the artwork steps out of the museum’s sterile setting. It comments on its surroundings and on the earth under our feet that we so often take for granted. |
