5. August - 30. September Installation. Aarhus University Park The art of embroidery has been revived. The ancient traditional craft with its many feminine connotations is here combined and juxtaposed with the industrial and the masculine in that it is stitched on construction tarp. The piece is entirely made of recycled materials, which receive new life, new meaning and new beauty through the embroidery. The sentence is taken from Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians. The universally human is universally valid, but seriously threatened by the rule of individualism in modern day society. Let’s help each other remember our common human condition and common values. The installation is an invitation to consideration, understanding, compassion and tolerance. The words are intentionally written without spaces in between, forcing the viewer to stop up and perceive the artwork primarily as an image before the textual content becomes clear. The tension between word and image dances between the stitches, colors and meaningful words. |
