„Zapfenstreich“. The German word „Streich“ means prank, playing tricks on someone. “Zapfen” can be translated as fir cone or pine cone. Military tattoo is the general meaning for “Zapfenstreich”. It comes from turning off the tap, which means no more beer and keeping the place at night. The watercolors and the sculpture are circling that topic like a more or less brilliant pun. A usual watering can joins a handful of pine cones found in Nimes. It is a plaster cast.
The watercolors are inspired by pics I took in Nimes too. By chance a found situation with household trash on the roads in the very center. Shortly before bulky waste was removed. A stuffed deer in a garbage container. For a short period this combination of things was a great attraction. Many random passersby stroked the soft fur of the deer.
